EU provides EUR 9 mln for a new project on Moldovan-Ukrainian border

The European Union has provided EUR 9 mln for a new project on technical assistance at the Moldova-Ukraine border till 2009. The project called BOMMOLUK (Improvement of Border Controls at the Moldova-Ukraine border) has already started its activity, head of the EU assistance mission Gen. Ferenz Banfi stated Thursday, January 18, in Odessa.
As Banfi says, quoted by Ukrainian press, the project provides for the purchase of technical equipment and development of the communication systems at the border, as well as organisation of trainings for customs services in Moldova and Ukraine and internships in the EU countries.
The EU Border Assistance Mission to Moldova and Ukraine, with the headquarters in Odessa, started its activity on November 30, 2005. The Mission is seeking to make a sustainable contribution to enhancing the delivery of good quality border and customs services to the citizens of Moldova and Ukraine.
