EU provides €90m to Moldova for justice reform

The European Union will offer €90 million to Moldova in support for the justice reform and for implementing bilateral agreements. The announcement was made in a news conference in Brussels held jointly by Prime Minister Iurie Leanca and European Commissioner for Enlargement and European Neighborhood Policy Stefan Fule, IPN reports.

According to a communiqué from the Government, the two officials signed two documents – the agreement on financing the Budget Support in Justice Program (€60m) and the Program of Support to the Implementation of Current and New Agreements between the European Union and the Republic of Moldova (€30m), as part of the second phase of the Comprehensive Institution Building Program.

Stefan Fule approved of the fact that the first visit by Iurie Leanca as Prime Minister of Moldova was paid to Brussels. He expressed his conviction that the new government coalition in Moldova will manage to make progress in achieving the set objectives.

In Brussels, Iurie Leana also met with the President of the European Commission Jose Manuel Barroso. The official welcomes the overcoming of the political crisis in Chisinau and the formation of the new Government. The meeting centered on the most important items from the Moldova - EU agenda, in particular the events that will take place before the Eastern Partnership Summit. The initialing of the Association Agreement between Moldova and the EU was a separate subject for discussion. The two officials agreed to continue the high-level dialogue with a view to achieving the common goal of integrating Moldova into the EU.
