High Representative of the Union for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Federica Mogherini and Commissioner for European Neighborhood Policy and Enlargement Negotiations Johannes Hahn welcome the appointment of Prime Minister Chiril Gaburici and the formation of the government in the Republic of Moldova, IPN reports.
Federica Mogherini and Johannes Hahn said they are looking forward to continuing the cooperation and swiftly implementing the Association Agreement with Moldova to the benefit of the people.
“A stable government with a genuine reform agenda will be crucial to this end. We trust that the new government will step up its efforts on key reforms, especially in the justice and financial sectors and on fighting corruption, in the interest of all Moldovans. Moreover, continuing and intensifying a broad policy that includes all sectors of the society will be essential,” reads the statement issued by the two EU officials.
The EU underlines its support for the sovereignty and territorial integrity of the Republic of Moldova with a special status for Transnistria and strongly encourages to intensify efforts towards reaching a comprehensive, peaceful settlement of the Transnistrian conflict.
“The Republic of Moldova is a key associated partner of the European Union. The EU looks forward to continuing the close and successful cooperation with the new government,” says the statement.
The Government was invested on February 18 by 60 votes of MPs of the PLDM, PDM, and PCRM.
