The European Union provides €3.34 million for the local public authorities of Moldova and Ukraine to develop together transfrontier projects within the Moldova-Ukraine EaP Territorial Cooperation Program, IPN reports.

In the ceremony to sign the financing contracts within the program, Minister of Regional Development and Construction Vasile Batca admitted that the resources of the National Regional Development Fund are insufficient for contributing to the economic development of local communities. Therefore, the authorities count on the cooperation with the development partners, including as part of transfrontier cooperation programs.

The local authorities, communities and civil society organizations from all over Moldova and the eligible regions of Ukraine (Cernauti, Vinita and Odessa) took part in a contest of projects to discuss in concert the transfrontier challenges in education, culture and sport and to improve the living standards in local communities. The 16 winners demonstrated local development tendency, competitiveness and environmental durability.

The institutions that successfully passed the grant accessing procedure will take part in a training seminar centering on the program, methods of implementing projects, financial norms and public procurement. The participants in the training will benefit from individual consultancy on issues related to the management of grants by the teams of the selected projects.
