“Following Romania's request, the European Union launched Monday, October 13, at the reunion of the 27 Foreign Ministers in Luxemburg, a very strong message as to its availability to bring Moldova and the EU closer and to contribute to settling the Transnistrian conflict,” stated Romania's Foreign Minister Lazar Comanescu. "The essential Conclusions adopted send strong messages. First, the EU is ready to negotiate a new accord, more ambitious, with Moldova. Second, this accord envisages the further rapprochement of Moldova to the EU, what, we hope, will lead to an association formula. Third, the EU underlines its commitment to solve the Transnistrian conflict," Minister Comanescu stated at a meeting with Romania media, quoted by Info-Prim Neo. Romania has insisted for the last 12 months, and especially after the war between Georgia and Russia, on the fact that it is substantial that the EU involves in settling frozen conflicts, especially the one in Transnistria, which is on the territory of a state in the immediate neighborhood. On Monday, the Foreign Ministers of the 27 EU countries recommended the EU's supreme authority – the European Council – to develop closer ties with Moldova and, among others, to consider the possibility of canceling the entrance visa regime for Moldovans.
