A former EU official will act as a mediator between the parties that will discuss the formation of a parliamentary coalition for investing the new Government. The candidates for this post are now being examined and the chosen person is to come to Chisinau next week, ex-Premier Valeriu Strelet, who heads the Liberal Democratic Party (PLDM) on an interim basis, said in the press club meeting “Social resonance”, IPN reports.

Valeriu Strelet said that he was on a visit to Brussels, where he met with the administration of the European People’s Party and EU officials. No one from outside exerts pressure on the PLDM and tells them to form or not to form an alliance with particular parties.

The Democratic Party is to give an answer as to the PLDM’s demands and to sit at the negotiating table. The former Premier noted that the PLDM will not accept the situation to remain as until now, stressing that if the current system is conserved, the situation in the country will worsen. Thus, the PLDM insists that a clear timeframe for ensuring the independence of a number of state institutions is set, that an apolitical candidate is named as Prime Minister and that Head of Parliament Andrian Candu is dismissed.

Valeriu Strelet said there are already several apolitical candidates for premiership and it is the President who will make a decision. If the PDM accepts the demands of the Lib-Dems, candidates will be proposed by the end of next week. The PLDM must be sure that the future Premier will be free to act and will not be controlled politically.

As to the dismissal of Andrian Candu, the acting leader of the PLDM said the Lib-Dems will not act as the Democrats did and will not vote with anyone for obtaining Candu’s dismissal and momentary political benefits. They expect Andrian Candu to resign himself, especially because he said that he will not stick to his post if the state interests are at stake. “We cannot believe that the former first deputy head of the Democratic Party Vlad Plahotniuc withdrew from politics when a relative of his (Candu is said to be related to Plahotniuc  - e.n.) holds such a high-ranking post,” stated Strelet.
