The European Union is a leader by the volume of non-reimbursable financial assistance provided to the Republic of Moldova. Since it established cooperation relations with Moldova, the EU has offered over €900 million to Moldova. Currently, 76 projects with a total budget of about €379 million are being implemented in Moldova with EU support. The information was made public in an event held to present six EU projects to ensure the socioeconomic development of ATU Gagauzia in Comrat, IPN reports, with reference to the Government’s press service.

The six projects envision the provision of support for the local public authorities of ATU Gagauzia, consolidation of civil society, development of agriculture and local entrepreneurship. Attending the event, Prime Minister Pavel Filip said the EU support for Moldova is very important in the context of the broad reform process initiated by the Government, including of the local public administration reform.

The Premier noted that the implementation of the given projects in the region is a good example of motivation and involvement of the local authorities. “Not everything depends on the central authorities. I thank you for your initiative. We must work together to find solutions to all the problems so as to increase the quality of people’s lives,” said Pavel Filip.

Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Peter Michalko said there are possibilities of accessing the EU funds, but the local authorities, civil society and entrepreneurs should have the ability to work out projects and manage them. The efficient local public authorities with proper capacities play a decisive role in bringing about real changes at the local level.
