The EU will invest €6.2 billion in sustainable, safe and efficient transport infrastructure projects across Europe. Out of this sum, €250 million will be allocated for crossborder connections between Ukraine, Moldova and their EU neighbors, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the European Commission.

Commissioner for Transport Adina Vălean said that these projects will help complete the Trans-European Network for Transport, TEN-T, the backbone of the EU’s economy. “I am particularly happy that €250 million will improve crossborder connections between Ukraine, Moldova, and their EU neighbors Romania, Hungary, Slovakia and Poland. These projects will make transporting goods between the EU and Ukraine easier, reinforcing the Solidarity Lanes,” stated Adina Vălean.”

The European Commission has selected 107 transport infrastructure projects to receive over €6 billion in EU grants from the Connecting Europe Facility (CEF), the EU’s instrument for strategic investment in transport infrastructure. The Facility supports the development of high performing, sustainable, intelligent and effectively interconnected trans-European networks in the fields of transport, energy and digital services.
