An agreement was signed to set up the EU Support HUB for Internal Security and Border Management in Moldova in Chisinau. The document was signed in the July 11 meeting of the Justice and Home Affairs Council of the EU. From this moment, the Republic of Moldova will strengthen the security belt of Europe and will become a state that produces security for the European space, IPN reports, quoting a press release of the Ministry of Home Affairs of the Republic of Moldova.
According to the Ministry, the new organism will adjust the European security architecture for crisis situations, like the one generated by the war in Ukraine. This is created in only two months after Minister of Home Affairs Ana Revenco and her team offered the European Commissioner for Home Affairs Ylva Johansson to set up an EU security Hub in Chisinau to so as to strengthen the security of the European space that would cover Moldova as well.
“Only with the participation of Commissioner Ylva Johansson and the determination of Czech Minister of Home Affairs Vít Rakušan we manage today, in only two months, to place security anchors beyond the space of the European Union. This is a small step for us, specialists from the internal affairs sector, but is a big step for the quietness and peace of the citizens all over Europe, including the citizens of the Republic of Moldova. Practically, together we strengthen the security belt of Europe on the border with the war,” Ana Revenco stated at the agreement signing ceremony in Prague.
“The EU Support HUB for Internal Security and Border Management in Moldova is a big step for our common security,” said Commissioner Ylva Johansson, thanking the Moldovan minister and her team for visionary and proactive thinking and for the determination with which they worked for such a HUB to function in Chisinau.
Among the main activity areas of the Hub will be the diminution of risks and threats that were identified in concert by the EU and Moldova, including trafficking in arms, drugs and persons, illegal migration, trafficking in radioactive substances and cybercrimes.
The agreement was signed in the Czech Republic by EU Commissioner Ylva Johansson and Moldovan Minister Ana Revenco. The Republic of Moldova for the first time took part in a meeting of the EU Justice and Home Affairs Council (JHA) on July 11. Ana Revenco joined the justice and home affairs ministers of all the EU member states.
