The Delegation of the European Union denies the accusations made by activists of the Civic Congress in a news conference. They accused the European officials Dirk Schuebel and Štefan Füle of committing financial swindles through European projects implemented in Moldova. In a press release, the EU delegation says that these declarations are nothing but verifiable lies, aimed at attempting to discredit the reputation of the European Union as a whole and of the Head of the EU Delegation to Moldova Dirk Schuebel in particular, IPN reports.

“The Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova wishes to categorically reject corruption allegations against its Head. Also, the EU Delegation points out that it never had contractual relations with Mr Vladimir Volkov, contrary to the latter's allegations. In fact, Mr Volkov was a subcontractor of a subcontractor of the EU Delegation's contractor in the project “Fixed and Mobile Communication Network for the Border Guard Service of the Republic of Moldova”. Furthermore, contrary to his assurances, Mr Volkov did not engage at any moment in any written or other correspondence with any member of the EU Delegation to Moldova,” it is said in the press release.

The EU Delegation reserves its right to undertake legal procedures for defamation against the authors of the abovementioned public declarations.

On June 17, activists of the Civic Congress accused Dirk Schuebel and Štefan Füle of financial swindles. Vladimir Volkov, a member of the Civic Congress, said that he was the manager of a European project and saw how the money from European projects is stolen. He stated he was arrested when he attempted to make these illegal schemes public.
