The Delegation of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova launches the European Green Week 2021 campaign titled “Zero pollution for health of people and planet” as of May 31, 2021. According to the organizers, the campaign is aimed at underscoring and focusing on the importance of the environment and the responsibility borne by everyone for the health and future of mankind, IPN reports.

Within the campaign, there will disseminated success stories and features about the best practices for reducing and promoting green economy in the Republic of Moldova within the EU assistance programs and projects. The campaign will end with the celebration of World Environment Day on June 5.

According to EU Ambassadors to Moldova Peter Michalko, climate change and environmental pollution unfold at an unprecedented speed before our eyes, amplifying each other. The necessity of acting is clearer than ever. That’s why the European Union undertook the initiative in the global fight against climate change and, for now, an important part of the EU assistance is intended for the protection of the environment for ensuring cleaner air, land and water for the citizens.

The diplomat noted the European Green Deal presented by the EU in 2019 is a roadmap for making Europe the first climate neutral continent until 2050. It aims to make sure the Union turns into a modern, resource-efficient and competitive economy, where there are no net emissions of greenhouse gases by 2050 and economic growth is decoupled from resource use.

“Such ambitious objectives will make us all assume responsibility and become involved in the Green Transition. Each person’s contribution is necessary, regardless of the scope, so as to ensure a necessary level of social acceptance,” stated Peter Michalko.

\World Environment Day is celebrated worldwide on June 5 every year. World Environment Day is an initiative of the United Nations to raise awareness on the need to protect the environment and preserve nature. This day has been observed since 1947. To commemorate this day, individuals, communities and institutions take actions to protect the environment and preserve nature, such as environmental cleanups.
