The State Labor Inspectorate received 30 body cameras and related equipment to increase the efficiency and transparency of the institution. The donation, made within a project funded by the European Union and implemented by the International Labor Organization (ILO), is meant to strengthen the operational capacities of the institution, by providing an additional tool to improve the conduct of unannounced inspections. The use of cameras will improve risk analysis and promote internal integrity policies and zero tolerance for abuse and corruption, IPN reports, with reference to the (ILO)

Minister of Labor and Social Protection Alexei Buzu said that the new body cameras for inspectors will make the work more efficient and will ensure greater transparency and confidence in activities. Over the years, the image of inspectors has suffered and these cameras will help prevent any form of abuse and corruption on both sides.

Ambassador of the European Union to the Republic of Moldova Jānis Mažeiks said that the use of body cameras during inspections will help labor inspectors to maintain their integrity, professionalism and transparency at the highest level during their activities. “The European Union will continue to help the state institutions so that the citizens of the Republic of Moldova benefit from high-quality and transparent inspection services,” stated Jānis Mažeiks.

“This contribution represents a small part of the project implemented by the ILO, which focuses both on improving the legal framework and existing policies in the field of labor inspection, and on strengthening the capacities of labor inspectors, in order to ensure better access to the labor market and improved working conditions in the Republic of Moldova, as well as on providing the necessary material support. This support will contribute to the sustainability of overall work to improve the regulatory framework needed in the context of the institutional reform, including in connection with the aligning of the national legislation with the EU acquis and ILO standards,” said Claire Harasty, Director of the ILO Regional Office.

The total acquisition costs amount to €45,000. The 30body cameras will be distributed to ten strategic locations, namely the State Labor Inspectorate and the local labor inspectorates in Chisinau, Balti, Cahul, Cimișlia, Drochia, Edineț, Orhei, Călărași, Căușeni, and ATU Gagauzia.
