Minister of Foreign Affairs and European Integration Natalia Gherman had a meeting with the EU ambassadors in Chisinau within which they discussed the first results achieved in implementing the Association Agreement between Moldova and the European Union, IPN reports.

Natalia Gherman said Moldova made considerable progress during the first five months of the coming into force of the accord, despite the electoral period and the lack of a functional parliament. Among the accomplishments are the adjustment of over 10% of the national legislation to the EU’s, the growth in exports to the EU, and the connection to the EU energy network by putting into operation the Iasi-Ungheni gas pipeline.

“The first results in the implementation of the Association Agreement show that real changes started to take place in Moldova, this being also a stimulus for continuing the reformation program, especially the fight against corruption, the justice sector reform and the financial-banking sector reform,” stated Natalia Gherman.

The minister reiterated that at the Riga Summit of May 21-22, the EaP countries must obtain an individual and differentiated approach based on the achieved results and the ambitions of each partner.

The ambassadors urged the authorities to step up the actions that bring concrete benefits to the people and reaffirmed their support for continuing the process of modernizing Moldova.
