The bilateral relations between Estonia and Moldova are very good, but there is place for the better. Moldova is an important state for Estonia, which supported financially a number of projects in the country, said the Minister of Foreign Affairs of Estonia Keit Pentus-Rosimannus, who is in Chisinau on a visit, IPN reports.

In a news conference held jointly with her Moldovan counterpart Natalia Gherman, Keit Pentus-Rosimannus said the Estonian assistance provided this year for projects implemented in Moldova rose to €950,000. The success story of Estonia, for example in using electronic services, can be implemented successfully in Moldova too, contributing thus to increased transparence and resource saving.

The Estonian official said that with Natalia Gherman they also discussed Moldova’s European course that Estonia supports and encourages. She noted that the reforms launched in Moldova were once done by Estonia too and these reforms are in parts painful and not at all popular, but they are necessary.

Natalia Gherman thanked her Estonian counterpart for the opportunities provided by Estonia to the young people of Moldova by the offered scholarships. Moldova and Estonia signed 11 agreements in different areas, which fostered the cooperation between the two states. Joint events are organized and the Moldovan products are sold on the Estonian market.

Moldova and Estonia established diplomatic relations on November 10, 1992. Since 1998, Estonia has financed projects in Moldova through its Development Cooperation program that is an efficient foreign policy instrument of the country in the cooperation with other states.
