In the Republic of Moldova, those who want to become parents will have equal rights, regardless of the civil status. The MPs debated a bill that will regulate a series of aspects related to medically assisted reproduction, such as: the beneficiaries’ consent, in vitro fertilization, preservation and cryopreservation of sex cells, gametes, and their defrosting, donation and transportation, including over the borders, IPN reports.

One of the sponsors of the bill, PAS MP Adrian Belyi said that according to the World Health Organization and to national statistics, approximately one in six or one in seven couples experience difficulties in conceiving a child. These families look for solutions in the health sector. It also goes to single women who want to have a child and also use such services. “In general, this phenomenon is increasingly felt in our society owing to the expanding reproductive health problem that evolved from the perception of problem of a couple to the perception of public health problem. Infertility was equated with any other disease that necessitates medical assistance,” explained Adrian Belyi.

Such activities are performed by several medical centers in Moldova based on orders issued by the Ministry of Health, which are not yet based on legal reasons. The regulations also govern the activity of public and private healthcare providers that will need to be authorized and accredited in accordance with the legal provisions.

For the first time, there will be compiled a list of health conditions for the donor so as to guarantee biovigilance and biological security and not to transmit disease to the future child. Confidentiality and anonymity will be guaranteed.

The bill was given the first reading and will be adopted after it is examined in the second, final reading.
