Some of the members of the Consultative Public Health Council working under the Prime Minister consider the 60-day period of the state of emergency is exaggerated and, depending on the epidemiological indicators, this period should be reduced. Moreover, epidemiology experts believe the imposed restrictions are too mild and are not aimed at limiting the spread of the virus. On the other hand, secretary of state at the Ministry of Justice Tatiana Zatyk said the authorities will soon suggest harsher measures, IPN reports.

Angela Paraschiv, head of the Epidemiology Department of the State University of Medicine and Pharmacy “Nicolae Testemitanu”, said the declaring of the state of eminency for a period of 60 days is unjustified.

“Under the law, the maximum length of the state of emergency is 60 days. However, we now speak about a biological factor, a virus with an incubation period of 14 days. From this viewpoint, the period of 60 days is too long. Even when quarantine is instituted, the incubation period of 14 days is mentioned and two such periods are needed, which is 28 days. Depending on the further developments, this period of 60 days should be reviewed,” Angela Paraschiv stated in the program “Emphasis on Today” on TVR Moldova channel.

Moreover, Angela Paraschiv, who is a member of the Consultative Public Health Council, said the imposed restrictions are illogical when all the centers where hotbeds of COVID-19 can appear continue work.

“No measures were taken with regard to markets, malls or crowdedness in churches. The imposed restrictions apply to the orange code alert, not the red code alert. When there is a state of emergency, there is a red code alert. This makes us think that the state of emergency was declared for political goals, not with the aim of improving the situation,” opined Angela Paraschiv.

For her part, Tatiana Zatyk, secretary of state at the Ministry of Justice, said that if the number of infections does not decline in the immediate period, much harsher restrictions will be imposed.

“We are monitoring the situation and, depending on the epidemiological indicators, some of the provisions will be adjusted. There could be imposed harsher restrictions concerning physical distancing, limitation of movement of people. But, until then, we must obey the rules that actually do not cost anything and include the correct wearing of masks, avoiding of crowed places and frequent washing of hands,” stated Tatiana Zatyk.

According to the Commission for Exceptional Situations, during the state of emergency that will last until May 30, a curfew for the period between 11pm and 5am will be imposed in the municipalities of Chisinau and Bălți. Schools will apply online learning, while kindergartens will continue work. Any economic unit will be closed if it violates the public health measures in the period.
