After a decline in the number of new COVID-19 cases, the situation worsens daily and not only in Moldova, but all over the world, including in the neighboring countries. Statistics show the Delta variant, which is much more contagious, severe and merciless, dominates with 91% on the European continent. The situation requires mobilization among the population so as to diminish the proportions of the wave that is expected during the first months of autumn, epidemiologist Ștefan Gheorghiță, of the National Public Health Agency, stated in an online session titled “Vaccination against COVID-19: Delta variant, efficiency of vaccines and protection measures”.
The protection measures remain the same: vaccination and observance of sanitary norms, such as mask wearing, maintaining of social distancing, avoidance of crowded places, washing of hands as often as possible, etc.
Given that the Delta variant attacks also young persons and the students return to classes in September, the mission of the organizers of the teaching process is to ensure protection in groups. “We must immunize the persons who turned 18 – in schools, colleges, universities. The managers of economic units should persuade employees to get vaccinated so as to ensure the country’s development,” stated Ștefan Gheorghiță.
Currently, the vaccination rate in the Republic of Moldova is of about 16%. The medical personnel have been 86% vaccinated, while the employees of intensive care units have been 91% immunized. Many persons with Romanian nationality got a vaccine in Romania and were included in other statistics, but this does not change the approach. Good developments can be forecast only if a vaccination rate of 70% is reached.
