About 3,800 new cases of acute upper respiratory tract infections were reported in the municipality of Chisinau last week, up almost 48% on a week before. The information was presented in the January 28 meeting of officials of Chisinau services and divisions, IPN reports.
Acting head of the General Social Assistance and Health Division Carolina Olaru said the number of acute upper respiratory tract infections was by 52% higher than in the corresponding period last year. Children were involved in most of the about 3,800 cases logged last week. A number of 111 persons were hospitalized in the period.
Also, 93 cases of flu were recorded in the municipality of Chisinau last week.
To avoid the spread of infections, the affected persons should avoid contact with other people and should cover the mouth and nose with a handkerchief when they cough or sneeze. It is recommending airing and cleaning the contaminated areas, avoiding contact with infected persons, washing the hands with soap and water and eating products that contain vitamin C, such as lemon and black currant, and phytoncide products, such as garlic and onion, which have antimicrobial properties.
