The second European Political Community Summit has begun in Bulboaca. “We all have a strong interest in improving connectivity among our countries”, stated President Maia Sandu in her welcoming speech.
Sandu declared that Moldovans, like other Europeans, have shown solidarity with their Ukrainian neighbors. But more is needed. “This summit provides the platform for identifying solutions to which we can all commit for bringing peace back to the European continent and for defending this continent”
According to the Moldovan president, “there is a need to act together, just like a single European family, where states within and outside the EU act together to combat aggression and strengthen peace on the continent. In the next few hours, we want to have a strategic debate on how we can strengthen the security of the continent and how we can solve the consequences of the Russian invasion against Ukraine. We will need to find solutions to the energy and climate crises. We all need to move towards a cleaner and safer pan-European energy system, we need to accelerate the energy transition, diversify energy sources and better protect critical infrastructure and electrical grids.
The opening remarks are followed by discussions behind closed doors, after which roundtable meetings on security, energy and connectivity will take place. Bilateral meetings will be held as well, with the closing press conference scheduled for 5:00 PM.
