The Committee on Civil Liberties, Justice and Home Affairs of the European Parliament will vote on the report concerning the abolition of the visa regime with Moldova in Brussels on February 12, IPN reports.
The meeting starts at 09.00 (10.00 Moldova’s time). The issue on Moldova is the 18th item in the agenda and will be examined in the second half of the day. The report is presented by MEP Tanja Fajon. In the same meeting, the MEPs will vote on the visa liberalization agreement between the EU and Azerbaijan.
On the eve, MEP Monica Macovei said the Moldovan citizens are welcome in the European Union and Moldova’s efforts to obey and implement the European rules started to produce results. According to her, the plenary of the European Parliament will vote for abolishing the visa requirements for Moldovans on February 25.
Earlier, Romanian Foreign Minister Titus Corlarean said there is clear support on the part of the EU member states, the European Commission and the European External Action Service for Moldova’s European course for achieving the objectives in accordance with the discussed agenda. He also said that if things go on as planned, the Moldovan citizens will be able to travel freely in the EU in several months.
After the proposal on visa regime liberalization for Moldova is adopted by the European Parliament and the Foreign Affairs Council confirms its position, the decision will be published in the Official Journal of the European Union. It will take effect in 20 days of the publication.
