The Environment Agency is calling on those intending to visit cemeteries on Easter of the Dead to opt for fresh flowers and wreaths, instead of artificial ones. According to specialists, artificial flowers are made from degradation-resistant plastics, which make them a serious source of pollution.
Since such flowers are not recycled, they go directly to the landfill, where they often end up being burned, polluting the air, says the Environment Agency.
Members of the public are urged to replace plastic wreaths with fresh flowers, thereby helping to protect fragile ecosystems and local biodiversity for the benefit of the environment.
