The NGO “Caroma Nord” has created the Environmental Coalition of Balti Municipality and 24 other organizations have already joined the initiative. The Coalition's goal is to strengthen cooperation between organizations that educate and take action to protect the environment. It's a structure open to any organization, institution or citizen who supports the protection of the environment.

After creating the Coalition, “Caroma Nord” organized the forum “European solidarity for the environment”, in order to spread information about the process of European integration, to facilitate cooperation between public and private organizations interested and involved in the protection of the environment, to promote ecologic production and to attract investors in the north of the country.

Rodica Frecautanu, chairwoman of “Caroma Nord”, told IPN that the forum gathered about 100 participants who learned about the benefits of the Association Agreement for the Moldovan environment. They were also told that Moldova will soon have to start implementing the Agreement's provisions regarding the protection of the environment.

The forum also hosted an exhibition of products made of recycled materials in order to convince participants that waste can be recycled. Rodica Frecautanu said that the environmental provisions will be discussed at a round table in January 2015.

The Environmental Coalition, which plans to expand to villages and towns, will organize various trainings regarding the protection of the environment and the implementation of the relevant provisions of the Association Agreement. The Coalition will also prepare projects to attract investments in the fields of renewable energy and waste management, particularly necessary when considering that yearly about 800,000 tonnes of waste is produced in Moldova and most villages lack public waste disposal services.

The event was organized as part of the project “Increasing the participation of civil society in the protection of environment and the responsibility of decision factors by creating the Environmental Coalition in Balti Municipality”, supported by FHI 360 and funded by the American people through USAID.
