Moldovan entrepreneurs are invited to attend during February 24-28 a seminar on a planned nationwide inventory of polychlorinated biphenyls (PCBs) in the dielectric oils used in the energy sector, Info-Prim Neo learned from the Ministry of Ecology and Natural Resources. The seminars will take place in Chisinau and Balti. Among the issues to be discussed will be the negative effects of PCBs, the measures needed to make the use of PCBs as safe as possible, international experience in the filed, including inventory practices used in other countries, as well as ways of implementing them in Moldova. PCBs are a class of hazardous chemical compounds included in the list of the 12 Persistent Organic Pollutants (POPs) regulated by the Stockholm Convention. They are considered a hazard for the humans and the environment, therefore their production and use has been forbidden and all POP stocks are due to be liquidated by 2025. A national inventory of PCBs would be an important step towards achieving this target.
