The ENT (ear, nose and throat) block of the Chisinau Children’s Hospital “Emilian Cotaga” has been fully renovated. The repair works cost over 8 million lei, the money being allocated from the fund of the National Health Insurance Company (CNAM), IPN reports.
In the ceremony to open the renovated block, Minister of Health Andrei Usatyi said the patients with the most difficult cases are treated here. Within a project supported by Japan, modern equipment to the value of US$1.6 million was purchased and will be installed the next few days.
The minister also said that cochlear implants started to be put in newborns with hearing impairments. Five operated children started to speak after they got implants.
The leader of the Liberal Democratic Party Vlad Filat, who held the post of Prime Minister when the strategy for modernizing the hospital system was launched, said that such acts contribute to ensuring access to the necessary healthcare services. He thanked all those who contributed to the implementation of this project. “I wish everyone health. It is your duty to take care of our children and our health. We should go together towards a European future,” stated Vlad Filat.
CNAM director general Mircea Buga said that a great investment was made in the country’s future as about 2,500 children are treated annually at the Hospital “Emilian Cotaga”. “There is a big difference between what was yesterday and what is today. It is a switchover to the European standards. It is an investment not only in health, but also in the future of our children and we are proud of this investment,” he stated.
The project included the replacement of the roof, doors and windows, the ventilation, water supply and sewerage systems and of the wiring. There were repaired the sanitary facilities and the basement rooms where the ENT Faculty of the State University of Medicine and Pharmaceutics “N.Testemitanu” is based. By 70 students of this medical education institution will be trained daily at the Hospital “Emilian Cotaga”.
