The Hungarian authorities are requesting the new administration of the capital city to erect in Chisinau an Ensign in memory of the Hungarian soldiers who died on Moldovan soil during the World War II. This request has been submitted Wednesday, August 8, to Chisinau Mayor General Dorin Chirtoaca, at a meeting with Gen. Biro Hiudor, deputy head of the Bureau for tending the tombs of the people who died on duty, director of the Institute of Military History of the Hungarian Defence Ministry, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting the City Hall’s press service. According to Biro Hiudor, the request relies on an intergovernmental agreement between Hungary and Moldova signed back in 1998. The Hungarian authorities, for their part, commit themselves to meet a similar request from Moldova. Dorin Chirtoaca appreciated to the Hungarian delegation’s request, mentioning that this action is in agreement with the European standards for overcoming the disagreements when treating the World War II victims’ status. The mayor stated that he is personally supporting the idea of raising in Chisinau an Ensign in memory of the Hungarian soldiers who died in Moldova during the World War II. The parties decided that the relevant agencies of the Chisinau City Hall establish in the nearest future, in cooperation with the Ministry of Defence and with the Hungarian party’s accord, how to implement this project.
