The third edition of the National Romanian Language Learning Program has officially opened for enrollment. This program is intended for adults who wish to improve their language skills or begin learning Romanian from scratch. The courses are free, with all costs fully covered by the state budget, IPN reports.

The Ministry of Education and Research states that approximately 6,500 individuals are expected to be trained this year. Each course will last an average of 120 hours, depending on the participant's linguistic proficiency level.

Courses will be offered both in-person and online, running from March to December 2025. Upon completion, participants will receive a certificate indicating their Romanian language proficiency level, in accordance with the Common European Framework of Reference for Languages (CEFR).

Enrollment is open until February 16, 2025, via an online form. For those unable to register online, assistance is available by calling 068686004 on weekdays between 9:00 and 17:00.

Last year, the highest number of applications came from residents of Chișinău (6,911), followed by UTA Gagauzia (1,586), Balti (682), and Tiraspol (622). Nearly 3,000 applications were submitted by residents of other districts. Of the total applicants, over 9,000 requested to study at the beginner (A1) or elementary (A2) levels.

To date, more than 16,000 people have learned Romanian through the National Program. Last year, approximately 14 million lei were allocated from the state budget for organizing and conducting the free courses.
