An Engineering Innovation, Research and Development Park could be set up in Moldova. The director of the Investment Agency says that the new entity will be similar to the already existing IT Park, which has led to the creation of over 15 thousand jobs. Marin Ciobanu says that unlike the virtual IT Park, the Engineering Innovation, Research and Development Park will represent a physical platform that will generate over 1000 jobs.

According to the head of the Investment Agency, the Engineering Research and Development Park will become a generator of innovation and new industrial technologies for research entities and the business community, but also a platform for establishing connections between multinational companies and local suppliers.

“The virtual park that we have in IT has proven to be a very important project for the Republic of Moldova. In five years, more than 1400 companies have registered and more than 15 thousand jobs have been created. Similar to this Park, we would like to have an Engineering Innovation, Research and Development Park. It is very important in these times of war when the world is more reluctant to invest, and in this period, we should go for things that do not require millions of euros. We should discuss with the Government and development partners to have a 7% flat tax for research and development”, said Marin Ciobanu during a press conference.

According to the director of the Investment Agency, the Park will have centers of expertise and laboratories and will instantly create jobs. According to Marin Ciobanu, the presence of such a Park in Moldova would represent an attractive offer for foreign investors.

“Over the course of next year, we could attract 1000 jobs in Research and Development, and it would no longer mean a virtual platform, like the IT Park, but a physical platform. The good thing is that we have to create the legal framework, we do not aim to train these young people. Because big companies already have the skills to train workers,” the head of the Investment Agency added.

Earlier, Economy Minister Dumitru Alaiba said that the Innovation, Research and Development Park could be created in place of the Experimental Plant of the Institute of Applied Physics of the Academy of Sciences.
