Russia's Gazprom has extended an invitation to Energy Minister Victor Parlicov to St. Petersburg, where a shareholders' meeting is to be held. The minister says the decision whether or not to go to Russia will be coordinated with Prime Minister Dorin Recean, IPN reports.

"This week I received an invitation from Gazprom to come to St. Petersburg for talks. Now, of course the topic is very sensitive. We are going to coordinate the visit and positions with the Prime Minister. But we will do our best to make sure that gas flows are stable, that consumers are secured and that there is stability in the Transnistrian region as well", Victor Parlicov told the press.

Moldovagaz acting president Vadim Ceban said earlier that the members of Moldovagaz's board of directors proposed by the government would be presented at the event in St. Petersburg at the end of November.

Candidates for the Moldovagaz board are to attend the meeting: Dorin Junghietu, who is to take over as chairman, as well as Eduard Calancea, a future member of the Board of Directors, before their approval by Gazprom.

Moldovagaz's new Board of Directors was to be set on September 25. Vadim Ceban remained in the interim, in the absence of an agreement in the six-member Board of Observers (two from Moldova and four from Gazprom). Decisions must be approved by at least five votes.

Moldovagaz is owned 50% by Gazprom, 35.3% by the Public Property Agency of the Republic of Moldova and 13.14% by Tiraspoltransgaz.
