Nineteen schools, nurseries and other public institutions located in southern Moldova will be connected to modern technologies for producing energy from renewable sources. These are the first beneficiaries of the Energy and Biomass Project 2 selected at a contest that involved 34 applicants, IPN reports.

The project’s manager Alexandru Ursul said the works at the 19 institutions will start this autumn and will end in 2016. The institutions will be connected to biomass heating systems. Solar panels for warming water will be additionally installed in seven of these.

At the second stage of the project, 80 biomass heating plans will be installed in public institutions with European funds. Solar energy equipment will be set up mainly in nursery schools and medical centers.

The Energy and Biomass Project 2 (2015-2017) has a total budget of €9.41 million, which is provided by the European Union. The project is implemented by the United Nations Development Program.
