Energocom has signed a contract valid for half a year with MGRES (Kuchurgan power plant) of the Transnistrian region for the supply of electrical energy at the price of US$66 per MWh, by US$7 less than the price for the last four months, IPN reports.

About 282,000 MWh of power are to be monthly bought from MGRES, which is over 90% of the electricity needed by the consumers from the right side of the Nistru River.

“The contract will enable us to supply the end users with electricity and to ensure the stable functioning of the electric power system. Also, the six-month period of validity of the contract ensures greater stability and predictability,” said Minister of Energy Victor Parlicov, being quoted in a press release issued by the Ministry.

In April, Energocom will also purchase approximately 17,400 MWh of electricity or 5% of the necessities from Romania’s SN Nuclearelectrica SA. If need be, at peak rate the company can also buy electricity from the Romanian electricity and gas market operator OPCOM.
