The employees who care for a sick member of the family will be able to ask for the suspension of the individual work contract for a period of two years, as opposed to one year at present. This is provided in a bill to amend and supplement the Labor Code that was passed in the final reading in the November 10 sitting of Parliament, IPN reports.

Bill author Valentina Stratan said the proposal is designed to protect especially the interests of sick children and children with disabilities by offering additional legal opportunities that do not imply extra costs and can be of real use in overcoming the faced difficulties.

According to the MP, the law will help improve the situation of parents who look after sick children and children with disabilities, enabling them to keep their job for a particular period during which the children’s state can improve and to then return to work.
