The Ministry of Labor, Social Protection and Family put forward a bill on the provision of meal tickets. Under the bill, employers will have the right to offer employees an individual allowance for food, in the form of meal tickets, for every workday. The tickets will be provided in addition to the salary.
Anna Gherganova, deputy head of the Human Resources Development and Occupational Policies Division, has told IPN that the meal ticket will represent an amount on which the employers will not pay income tax, social insurance contributions and health insurance premiums. It will be partially deducted when calculating the income tax that the employers must pay.
The employers will have the right, not yet obliged, to offer meal tickets to employees. They will determine by themselves the nominal value of a ticket, but it shouldn’t be lower than 25 lei.
The meal tickets can be used only at public eateries that signed a contract for the provision of services with those who issued the tickets.
