Employee of Center for Combatting Trafficking in Persons arrested for corruption

A person holding a responsible post at the Center for Combatting Trafficking in Persons was arrested on suspicion of corruption, IPN reports.

According to the Prosecutor’s Office for Organized Crime and Special Cases, the arrested person is suspected of asking for and receiving €30,000 from a person together with the Center’s prosecution officer, who was arrested one day earlier. For this sum, they were to make sure that the criminal case started against the relative of this person would be dropped. The officer received the first tranche of €10,000 for the purpose.

The suspects face 7 to 15 years in jail, with a fine of 400,000 to 500,000 lei and a ban on holding public posts or performing particular activities for 10 to 15 years.
