An integrated air quality monitoring system aligned with the EU’s system is to be created in Moldova until 2028 by transposing the European legislation to the national one. During ten years, the emissions of pollutants in the air are to be halved, IPN reports.
The objectives are laid out in a draft decision concerning the approval of the atmospheric air protection strategy for 2018-2028 and the plan of action for implementing this.
The integrated monitoring system will be created at a cost of €3.4 million and envisions the installation of 18 automated stations that will continuously collect data about the quality of air. Now samples are collected only three times a day. At the first stage, there will be purchased and installed an urban station, a traffic station and a mobile station. The monitoring stations will be bought later. The authorities bank on the support of the development partners.
The Ministry of Agriculture, Regional Development and Environment, which drafted the decision, said the general objective of the strategy is to develop an integrated air quality management system by aligning the legal, institutional and normative frameworks with the EU standards, based on a common approach and the country’s division into zones or agglomerations.
Proposals and recommendations over the draft decision can be submitted by March 7 to the email address veronica.lopotenco@madrm.gov.md, on the phone number 022 204 521 or to the mail address Chisinau, 9 Constantin Tanase St.
