The Emergency Service urges the population to respect a balanced food regime during the winter holydays and to purchase food products only from authorized shops. Spokeswoman for the National Prehospital Emergency Medicine Center Diana Blanaru has told IPN that medical emergencies related to the abuse of alcohol and food are typical for the winter holidays.

On Christmas and New Year’s, there are also numerous emergencies caused by the unfavorable meteorological conditions. “This year on Christmas, there were many calls to the ambulance service concerning acute viral infections. In the municipality of Chisinau, there were over 450 such calls and these prevailed,” stated Diana Blanaru.

Other emergencies during the winter holidays are related to pyrotechnical accidents. “Such accidents were typical on New Year’s the previous years. The patients include both children and adults. The burns caused by the incorrect use of pyrotechnics affect mainly the face, eyes and hands,” said the spokeswoman.

The Emergency Service recommends the population to respect a balanced food regime and not to abuse high-fat products and candies and to also go and see a doctor on the first symptoms of viral infection and follow the prescribed treatment so as to avoid complications.
