The National Pre-Hospital Emergency Medical Assistance Service will be outfitted with 168 new ambulances. The Cabinet approved the signing of the lending agreement between Moldova and the Council of Europe Development Bank that envisions the allocation of €12 million in financing, IPN reports.

Of the 168 vehicles, 35 will be intensive care ambulances, while 133 will be first aid ambulances. The move is aimed at improving the quality and speed of the services provided by the national ambulance service, including in villages.

To modernize the ambulance service, the Government last year allocated 51 million lei for purchasing 69 ambulances. The first ten ambulances were delivered to the country. The other 59 are to be delivered by the end of this month. The ambulances will be distributed to 32 emergency medical assistance units in all the country’s regions and ATU Gagauzia, where 90% of the ambulances need to be replaced.
