On the occasion of the celebration of Europe Day in Moldova, the Embassy of Lithuania will set up by a tent in the “European Village” in Chisinau and Comrat on May 12 and 19, where everyone will be able to meet diplomats of the Embassy, test their knowledge of Lithuanian traditions, culture, history in a quiz and win souvenirs or informative booklets,“ Lithuanian Ambassador to Moldova Violeta Motulaite has told Info-Prim Neo. According to the diplomat, the celebration of Europe Day in Moldova becomes a great opportunity to acquaint residents of Moldova with European values and traditions, history, present and future of the European Union as well as traditions, culture, life and achievements of the EU Member States. “Lithuania and Moldova have many similar features, especially since the second half of the 20th century. We survived occupations, the soviet period of development. Both our states are situated in Europe on the edges of East and West democracies,” said Violeta Motulaite Lithuania became a member of the European Union in May 2004. “We were successful not only due to the will and self-determination and endeavor of the people of Lithuania. We were also successful because we had trustful friends that helped us to prepare for Euro-integration. Now we feel that it is time for us to do for our Eastern neighbors what those countries did for our benefit,” stated the Lithuanian Ambassador. This year, Lithuania and Moldova will mark the 20th anniversary of the establishment of diplomatic relations. A roundtable meeting will be held in Chisinau to discuss the development of the European Union, perspectives of the EU Member States, priorities of the Lithuanian EU Presidency in the second half of 2013. “Europe is about values. Democracy, respect of rule of law, transparency of political and economic decisions of the Government, tolerance and mutual respect of different minded people are the basic standards of mutual coexistence inside the countries as well as among the states. Lithuania was, is and will be ready to assist Moldova in overcoming challenges on the path to European integration,” said Violeta Motulaite. She also said that the celebration of Europe Day in Lithuania features plentiful of events in dozens of towns. It is encouraging to see the youth involved into organizing many of those events. Many of the events represent a certain idea or value. For example, the tour of bicycles underlines the importance of clean nature and a healthy lifestyle. The events dedicated to the volunteering stress the importance of voluntary work and the fact that everyone can play a part in changing the world. Europe Day in Moldova will be celebrated in Chisinau and Comrat on May 12-19. Tents of the embassies of the EU Member States will be put up in the Great National Assembly Square, as last year.
