The Embassy of Germany in Chisinau and the German Cultural Center “Akzente” will award the winners of the student contest “Be journalist! – 25 years of Moldovan-German friendship” in a ceremony on February 21, IPN reports.

The creation contest was launched last October. As a result of this, third-twelfth graders from all over the country presented 40 works that included essays, video clips, wall newspapers, articles for newspapers and Power-Point presentations.

The top prize consists of sets of 30 books and exercise books for each class and a set for teachers, consisting of a guidebook and a CD. Besides, each class will get by a participation diploma and smaller prizes for all the students and teachers of German.

The contest was staged following a campaign to promote the German language entitled “German? Surely!”. Within the campaign, there were organized information sessions for principals, parents and teachers and linguistic exercises for students from 35 schools. These involved about 2,300 students. The campaign was launched in connection with the 25th anniversary of the establishment of Moldovan-German diplomatic relations that is celebrated in 2017.

The Embassy said that a new phase of the project “German? Surely!” will be initiated this year. Besides linguistic exercises and information sessions, the project this year will also center on measures to improve the skills of German language teachers and on the provision of additional teaching aids, in particular in rural areas.

The campaign “German? Surely!” in 2016 and 2017 and the contest “Be journalist! – 25 years of Moldovan-German friendship” were funded with about €40,000 provided by the Federal Ministry for Foreign Affairs of Germany.
