The vaccines received today by Moldova were produced by two different Chinese companies. The 150,000 doses donated by China were made by Sinopharm, while the 100,000 doses purchased by Moldova come from Sinovac. In a press release, the Embassy of China to the Republic of Moldova says the WHO confirmed that the two types of vaccine meet the standards of the World Health Organization. In total, six Chinese vaccines were included in the WHO list for assessment and approval, IPN reports.
“It should be noted that the Chinese vaccine until now has been used in tens of countries, including Hungary, Turkey, Ukraine, Brazil. At the same time, China decided to offer the COVAX Facility 10 million doses of Chinese vaccine that is considered safe and efficient by WHO experts,” runs the press release.
According to China’s Ambassador to Moldova Zhang Yinghong, the People’s Republic of China made considerable efforts to overcome the practical difficulties related to the supply and demand of vaccine, but ensured the lot of 250,000 vaccines, 150,000 of which were donated by the Chinese side, is delivered to the Republic of Moldova as swiftly as possible. This points once again to the profound friendship between the two countries and people. “China will continue to support Moldova in the fight against the pandemic,” Zhang Yinghong stated in the vaccine receiving ceremony.
The diplomat noted there is huge discrepancy in the global supply of vaccines. “Being a responsible country, China will continue to fulfill the commitments to promote the equitable distribution of vaccines all over the world and will continue to contribute to the availability of vaccines in developing countries,” stated the ambassador.
Speaker of Parliament Zinaida Grechanyi thanked the people and the senior administration of the People’s Republic of China for the humanitarian assistance provided to the Republic of Moldova. “We have been tied for years by the friendship between these two nations. I think this lot that is very impressive is very important in the fight against COVID-19 so that we achieve success as quickly as possible,” said the official, noting the consignment of vaccines and syringes that was delivered to Chisinau today shows that “a friend in need is a friend indeed”.
