The embargo imposed by the Russian Federation will orient the Moldovan exporters of wine products to other markets, including the European one. The orientation of exports to the West started in 2006, when Russia banned the import of Moldovan wines the first time, said MP Ana Gutu.

In a news conference at IPN, Ana Gutu stated that Moldova’s exports of wine products in 2006 represented about 90%, but now fell to one third. “The producers reoriented themselves to other markets, including the European one, owing to rather professional marketing policies,” she said.

The MP also said that the Russian market remains very important for the Republic of Moldova, but it is an uncertain market. “It is like quicksand,” she added.

Russia imposed the embargo on Moldovan wine products on September 10, arguing they are of a poor quality.
