Positively solving the problem of the people’s distrust in the state institutions is the only responsibility of the current Government, consider Andi Cristea, chairman of the Delegation to the EU – Moldova Parliamentary Association Committee, and Elmar Brok, chairman of the European Parliament Committee on Foreign Affairs. In a meeting with Prime Minister Pavel Filip in Brussels, the European officials noted that all the pro-European parties must try and cooperate again, IPN reports.

“We are delighted that Mister Filip accepted out invitation to present the way in which his Government intends to deal with the pressing problems faced by the country and its people. This thing sends a positive and important signal about the openness, involvement and determination of the current Government to discuss the current situation in the Republic of Moldova with the European partners and to make progress in implementing the reform program,” it is said in a press release of Andi Cristea’s team.

Andi Cristea and Elmar Brok underlined that there is only one opportunity for the new Government to confirm the ambitions of the Association Agreement and to show seriousness in doing reforms, with special emphasis on the rule of law and the legal system, the fight against corruption, organized crime and thorough investigation of the bank fraud. “For us, it is very clear that these reforms will be credible in the population’s eyes only if they go hand in hand with a process of combating the politicization of institutions, really and authentically involving civil society,” said the European officials.

These also said that they took into account the commitments made by the executive power and the steps already taken in a positive direction, such as the appointment of the new governor of the National Bank of Moldova or the adoption of a plan of priority reforms with clear implementation deadlines. Their efficient coming into force is essential and the European partners will follow closely the process and will be ready to offer assistance where necessary.
