The City Hall could begin, until the end of this year, a test project implementing an electronic trolleybus tax payment system, and by the end of September an auction for the purchase of equipment that will be mounted in transport vehicles will be organized.
The local authorities consulted other countries’ experience on the topic. Vice-mayor Veaceslav Iordan claims that initially the experiment will cover 100 of the 270 trolleybuses from Chisinau. The routes have not yet been chosen.
The fare in those 100 trolleybuses will be paid using electronic cards that will cost a dollar and will be rechargeable, the vice-mayor stated. This system will grant access to trolleybuses only to persons carrying these cards. The owner could travel the equivalent amount to the price of the electronic card. Once inserted in the electronic payment machine, the tax will be computed depending on the category – pupil, student, adult. These cards rule out the public transport season tickets.
Depending on the test project’s results, the electronic payment system could be used in all trolleybuses and autobuses of Chisinau. In the future an equivalent card could be used to pay parking fees, Veaceslav Iordan added.
The local public administration from Chisinau announced about this test project in June. The interim mayor of Chisinau municipal, previously Vasile Ursu declared that this new system could increase profits for the Urban Autobus Park and the Electric Transport Management from Chisinau.
