The liberalisation of the electricity market, which had to be carried out until 1 July 2007, was postponed until January 2015. The Parliament adopted a draft law in this respect on Thursday July 19. The Government justified the move by the fact that the proper functioning of the market requires proper conditions. The automated account system of the electricity traded on the market was not finished yet. Also there are insufficient interconnection capacities with the neighbouring countries for the supply of power. The aerial power lines Balti-Novodnestrovsc, Balti-Suceava and Falciu-Gotesti have not been built yet etc. Several opposition MPs criticised the draft law in first reading, mentioning that the Government did not present a concrete action plan and does not want to liberalise the market in a move to keep control over it.
