This week, after the weather cooled down and everyone returned to their regular work schedule, electricity consumption increased quite a lot, exceeding the planned levels for two consecutive days. For example, on Wednesday, the peak consumption exceeded the psychological threshold of 1000 MW, reaching 1,012 MW during peak hours, approximately 20 MW above the forecasted plan, IPN reports.

"Experts say that, for now, these exceedances do not affect the tariff and do not pose a risk of disconnections, but to avoid them, it is important to continue saving electricity, especially during peak hours," states the Crisis Cell of the Government.

The sources of electricity remain the same. The largest portion is imported from Romania through bilateral contracts, as well as from the OPCOM market, which is the most expensive, followed by Termoelectrica Chișinău, CET-Nord, the Costești Hydro Power Plant, and renewable energy production.

"This week, unfortunately, there was less sunshine and wind, so the share of renewable energy dropped to less than 6% of the consumption. However, there is better news for the weekend - the forecast indicates a substantial increase in green energy production," the Crisis Cell further states.

According to authorities, the positive news is that, since January 15, Energocom has managed to sign an additional electricity supply contract, ensuring 100 MW between 7:00 and 23:00. This helps reduce tariff pressure during peak hours and contributes to the security of energy supply.
