Electoral presents offered in Sangerei

The Central Election Commission (CEC) will make an approach to all the police stations in the country to report possible cases of giving electoral presents. The decision was made on May 26 after the Commission had been notified that bags with the symbols of the Democratic Party of Moldova were distributed in Sangerei town, Info-Prim Neo reports. The CEC requested the Ministry of the Interior to inform the electoral authority about the results of the investigation into the case in Sangerei. It also called on all the election runners to refrain from such practices. “Offering of presents by the candidates is a serious violation of the electoral legislation. Under the legislation concerning the financing of election campaigns, the only electoral presents that can be given to voters are the products made especially for the election campaign, with money from the electoral fund, which have the electoral symbols of the contender,” the Commission’s president Iurie Ciocan told the press. He said that the CEC has received no other notification as regards electoral presents.
