If the Democratic Party enters the next Parliament, it will start legislative work by extending the projects initiated the last two years. The first such project will be “Good Roads for Moldova 2” that was launched in 2018. The Party of Socialists will be primarily preoccupied with the economy and will take measures to encourage foreign investors to come to the national economy. The electoral bloc ACUM will lay emphasis on the fight against grand corruption and building of an appropriate business environment so as to develop the economy. Representatives of the three parties discussed these priorities in electoral debates on TVR Moldova channel, IPN reports.

The representative of the Democratic Party Nicolae Ciubuc said financial resources were already earmarked in the 2019 state budget for continuing the project “Good Roads for Moldova 2”. This program envisions the extension of the distance of built roads to 2,600 km. The water supply and sewerage systems are also a priority. “50% of the population regrettably do not have access to drinking water. During two years, we managed to connect over 100,000 citizens to dirking water sources. In 2019, we will also connect 100,000 people to drinking water systems,” stated Nicolae Ciubuc. He noted the creation of a favorable business environment and attraction of investments are also among the PDM’s top priorities in the next legislature.

The representative of the Party of Socialists Grigore Novac said that after the actions to stimulate the economy, the party will also reanimate the justice sector as this should ensure the rule of law that encourages foreign investors to come to the country. “Why do I speak about foreign investors? Because currently the country’s budget is at ground level. We cannot only shake down the business entities from which money comes to the budget. We should also encourage these companies not to work with double accounting records and to hide the revenues so that they could survive somehow,” stated Grigore Novac. According to him, the other areas are connected to these two important sectors - economy and justice.

Igor Grosu said fighting grand corruption is the key priority for the bloc ACUM DA PAS. The next priority on the list is to build a business environment for developing the economy and increasing oncomes. Education, health and the European integration are among the next priorities. “If we come to power, we will first of all put right what the current government did – we will stop and annul what they did by selling the nationality and will cancel fiscal amnesty,” he stated. According to Igor Grosu, this fiscal amnesty means that those who fairly paid taxes were cheated as those who kept their financial resources outside the country can now legalize them for a sum of 6%, but this money will not be invested in Moldova, but will be again taken out of the country.

The parliamentary elections of February 24, 2019 are held based on the mixed electoral system under which MPs are elected according to party lists and in single-member constituencies. The Central Election Commission so far registered 11 electoral contenders in the national constituency and is examining four more files.
