The October 30 presidential elections will be also supervised by a Mission of Observers of the Interparliamentary Assembly of the Commonwealth of Independent States. The about 70 observers will travel to about 150 polling places all over the country to monitor the elections and, implicitly, the vote count. All the findings will be incorporated in a report that will be presented after the elections, IPN reports.

Alexey Sergeev, secretary general of the Council of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly, in a news conference given in Chisinau after a meeting with the Central Election Commission president Alina Russu, said that among the discussed subjects was the ensuring of the right to vote of the Moldovans in Russia, given the situation witnessed at the parliamentary elections of 2014, when many persons could not vote. According to Alexey Sergeev, the CEC administration invoked a number of arguments based on which the number of polling places abroad was determined, including the fact that the Moldovans who will not be in Moldova on the election day were able to register beforehand.

The secretary general of the CIS Interparliamentary Assembly Council noted that the arguments invoked by the CEC didn’t satisfy the members of the monitoring mission. These will oversee the election process in Russia too and will include the violations in the final report, if such are identified.

Alexey Sergeev also said that the representatives of the mission had meetings with candidates for President with whom they discussed the upcoming elections.
