The vice chairman of the Committee on Foreign Affairs of the European Parliament Ioan Mircea Pascu said the elections in Moldova must confirms that the process of reformation and approaching of the European Union is irreversible. The Romanian Social-Democrat MEP made the statement at the public hearing themed “Republic of Moldova: one year since the pro-European shift” that was held in Brussels on June 9. Prime Minister Vlad Filat was among those attending, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communique issued by the MEP's office. “We must look at the developments in Moldova in a broader context of the international environment. When we speak about Moldova, we have two distinct discussion levels. On the one hand, Moldova is the last component of the Latin world outside the EU. On the other hand, the saying “what is small is nice” is confirmed as in a small country the reforms can be implemented and assimilated easier and at lower costs,” Ioan Mircea Pascu said. He stated that Moldova is also a great international policy problem. The stated interest of influential NGOs from the EU is welcome in this respect, Pascu said, giving as example the support offered by the Konrad Adenauer Foundation, which shows Germany's interest in Moldova's pro-European development. “The significant progress made by the new Government created an opportune moment for Moldova. This opportunity shouldn't be missed and it is important that further progress be made,” Pascu said, addressing the Premier. Ioan Mircea Pascu is the European Social-Democrats' rapporteur on the European Parliament's file regarding the Moldova-EU Association Agreement.
