The Communist Party (PCRM) will additionally involve about 1,500 observers to supervise the June 5 local elections in the municipality of Chisinau. The announcement was made by the PCRM’s candidate for mayor of Chisinau Igor Dodon in a meeting with Gerald Mitchell, head of the OSCE limited election observation mission that will monitor the local elections in Moldova, Info-Prim Neo reports, quoting a communiqué from the candidate’s electoral staff. Igor Dodon informed Gerald Mitchell about the pre-election situation in Moldova and in Chisinau and about the problems that the election runners may face until June 5 and on the election day. The candidate for mayor of Chisinau highly appreciated the role of the international observers in Moldova. He said it is very important that the local elections come under the close scrutiny of national and foreign observers. Given the challenges witnessed in the current election campaign and the buying of votes by some of the contenders as well as the multiple warnings about possible vote rigging given by people, the PCRM undertakes to take additional measures to prevent violations of the legislation, Igor Dodon said in the meeting. “Additional observers will be deployed at the polling places to record the number of persons who will vote and will compare the figures with the number of ballots,” said the candidate. According to him, more than 300 polling places in Chisinau will be monitored this way. Igor Dodon said observers of the PCRM will supervise an area of 100-150 meters of the polling place to prevent vote buying attempts.
