The Alliance for European Integration (AEI) has not yet agreed on the day of the early legislative elections. A part of its leaders consider the elections should be held on November 21. Others say this day is not suitable as 200 settlements observe the day of the town or the village on November 21, when it is celebrated Saints Archangels Mikhail and Gabriel, Info-Prim Neo reports.
In the program “In Depth” on PRO TV Chisinau channel on Monday evening, the president of honor of the Democratic Party Dumitru Diacov said the day of the early parliamentary elections must be set by Acting President Mihai Ghimpu, but only after consulting his colleagues from the governing alliance.
Alexandru Tanase, the first vice president of the Liberal Democratic Party, said he was warned by voters that they will not go to the polls on the day when they will celebrate the day of their settlement. “A solution is to hold the elections on a workday. In 2009, the elections took place on a Wednesday, on July 29,” he said.
Mayor of Chisinau Dorin Chirtoaca, vice president of the Liberal Party, underlined the danger resulting from the low voter turnout. “We commit the same mistake every year. The election campaigns held when it is cold are not successful. It would be better to hold them when it is dry and warm,” he said, adding that holding elections on a workday is not the best solution as the Moldovans abroad will encounter difficulties.
The three invitees of the program said the parties of the AEI will take part in elections separately, not in bloc. “We will not be able to obtain 61 votes to elect the head of state if the four parties of the governing alliance run under a common list. Nobody will vote for the Democratic Party if I'm on the same list with Ghimpu and vice versa,” said Dumitru Diacov.
However, the components of the alliance agreed to have a civilized behavior and not to attack each other. “The messages of the political parties that will provide solutions for the future will play a mobilizing role. The contenders must not harass each other,” said Alexandru Tanase.
The Parliament will adopt the decision on holding the elections after the Acting President signs a decree to dissolve the legislative body and calls early elections.
